Roemer van Toorn has been appointed Architectural Theory professor at the Umeå School of Achitecture at the University of Umeå Sweden in 2010.

The Umeå School of Architecture (UMA) was founded in 2009 as the fourth academic school in Sweden providing a professional degree in architecture by Danish architect Peter Kjaer together with PrefectThomas Oloffsson. Peter Kjaer was the former dean of the Aarhus school of architecture. Ana Betancour was appointed as rector in 2015.

The five-year architectural program (Ba & Ma) started in fall 2009 at the provisionary premises in the city centre of Umeå. Today it is situated at the river front of Umeå as an active member of the art-campus together with Umeå Institute of Design, the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, and the Modern Art Museum of Umeå (www.bildmuseet.umu.se).

in 2011 the UMA PhD research school has been established, in collaboration with the Architecture Academy in Sweden.
